Bill Borthwick Student Scholarships 2021

The Victorian Environmental Assessment Council’s 2021 round of Bill Borthwick Student Scholarships is now open for applications.

The scholarships are for Honours, Masters or PhD tertiary students to assist in the costs of research relating to public land in Victoria, including terrestrial, freshwater and marine environments. Relevant fields of study include natural sciences, humanities and social sciences, economics, law and politics.

This year we are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Bill Borthwick Student Scholarships. Over the last ten years VEAC has awarded more than $75,000 to 49 recipients. The scholarships were announced by the then Minister in March 2011 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the first meeting of the Land Conservation Council (LCC). They honour the vision of the Hon. Bill Borthwick, Victoria’s first Minister for Conservation and Deputy Premier from 1981 to 1982, and a central figure in establishing the LCC to advise government on the use of Victoria’s public land.
Here is a short video highlighting the work of previous scholarship recipients.
Applications close at 5:00 pm on Monday 1 March 2021.
